The Waukesha Chess Club Challenges All Residents of Elm Grove
to a
"Chess Challenge"

12 Noon - 4:30 pm
Elm Grove Community Room
Elm Grove chess players of all ages and skill levels are challenged to a play chess against two chess experts from the Waukesha Chess Club!
Taking on all challengers and playing up to 20 people at a time will be:
- Jacob Kohlenberg, a 20 years old former Waukesha Chess Club champion and Elm Grove resident , who placed third recently in the Chicago Open Chess Tournament (under 21 competition). He is a student at the University of Wisconsin - Madison majoring in Medical Microbiology and Immunology.
- Gregory Reese, Jr. is 11 years old and placed second in section 2 of the 2009 Waukesha Chess Club Fall Sectional. He participates in a variety of chess tournaments in the Greater Milwaukee area sponsord by the Wisconsin Scholastic Chess Federation including the Southwest Chess Club Badger Open and the Rose Glen Elementary Tournament.
Chess boards will be provided by the Waukesha Chess Club and will be set up in the Elm Grove Community Room. Participation is on a first come, first served basis. Play will begin promptly at 12 Noon. Once a game has been completed, you can get on the list to challenge them again as many times as you wish. No age or skill level is required, just an enjoyment and appreciation of the great game of chess. May the best chess player win!

Le Cakery Cooking Demonstration
& Cookbook Exchange!!!

Back by popular demand!
This year, the cooking demonstration will be given by Le Cakery, an Elm Grove restaurant known for its delicious cakes and desserts. Come and learn how create a simple dessert roulade, a jelly roll cake that is perfect for entertaining family and friends. Then sample the cake and ask questions. Learn from an expert!
Following the cooking demonstration, participate in our Annual Cookbook Exchange. Bring one or more cookbooks from your kitchen that you would like to exchange for different cookbook brought by other residents. You will be allowed to take one new-to-you cookbook for each one you bring.
Reservations are required. Sign up at the front desk of the Elm Grove Library or by calling (262)782 - 6717.

Elm Grove residents know Master Gardener Irwin Johnson for his beautiful and extensive hosta gardens. Join us on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 7:00 pm when he will share his expertise on all things growing, with tips and advice for everyone interested in beautifying their yards - especially for those facing the challenges of too much shade!
This very special program will be held in the O'Neill Room which is located on the lower level of the Elm Grove Library, 13600 Juneau Boulevard in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served.

"Fifty Years of the Sunset Playhouse:
A Look Back and a Look Forward"
As Elm Grove's own Sunset Playhouse nears the end of a year celebrating and commemorating 50 special years of community theater, join Managing Director Jonathan West and 50th Anniversary Chair Kay Esposito for stories from the past, a look towards the future of the theater and, as always when it's the Sunset Playhouse, an evening of fun! There might even be a special performance or two!

Elm Grove Reads
All Elm Grove residents and area book discussion grouups are invited to:
- Read the1945 Pulitzer Prize winning novel A Bell for Adano by John Hershey. Ten copies of the book will be available for checkout at the Elm Grove Library.
- Meet for lively discussion of the book led by MSOE professor and Great Books discussion leader Judith Steininger on October 5, 2010 at 7:00 pm at the Elm Grove Library.
Refreshments will be served.
