Volunteer with FOEGL
The Friends of the Elm Grove Library cannot raise funds or manage its activities without many dedicated volunteers. We welcome your participation and are always looking for new volunteers to help us fulfill our mission of supporting and promoting the library. There are many ways you can get involved with the Friends. We invite you to review the volunteer options listed below.
- Used Book Sale: We collect used books to be sold at our sale throughout the year. Used book donations can be dropped off at the circulation desk at the library. Please let the staff know they are for the Used Book Sale (or label them as such).
- Lights of Love: Volunteer opportunities include Mailer Assembly (early November) and Tree Lighting Volunteer (day of event, various shifts available).
- Garden Committee
- Children’s Programs
- Communication/Newsletter
- Social Media
- Bookie Cookie

Garden Committee
In 2010, the first Elm Grove Library Garden was designed and planted by Irwin Johnson and FOEGL members to beautify the library entrance. Each year since then, we have maintained and cared for it. In 2015, the garden was redesigned by Christopher Fehlhaber, landscape architect, who grew up in Elm Grove and wanted to give back. He expanded the plantings through the years all along the length of Village Hall façade and we maintain them also. The garden was designated a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation in October 2022. A crew of FOEGL volunteer gardeners works valiantly to keep these garden beds weeded and flourishing, a delight for our Library and community as well as a pollinator and wildlife-friendly habitat.
