On the snowy evening of Sunday, December 4, 2016, over 150 community members gathered at the Library and Village Hall for the 22nd annual Lights of Love tree lighting celebration. The event featured traditional favorites such as holiday crafts and a visit from Santa, as well as new traditions including Story Time with Mrs. Claus and a train table featuring Thomas the Train. Thomas the Train was a hit with our young guests!
Local Girl Scouts & maestro Tom Leahy set the festive mood with carols and new Elm Grove resident Claire (age 5) was honored to “Flip the Switch” and light up this year’s tree.
Guests warmed up, mingled, and enjoyed cake, cookies, and refreshments in the courtroom following the blustery ceremony outside.
Throughout November and December, Lights of Love received over $17,900 in donations from more than 225 families, individuals, and corporations. The Elm Grove Library will use these funds for a variety of purposes, including the Children’s Summer Reading Program, new equipment and display cubes, cleaning and maintenance of the new aquarium in the children’s area, and of course, to enhance the collections.
Thank you to everyone who attended the tree lighting and contributed to this year’s event.
